I have built quite a few amps since my first 18 watt Trinity, and since I like the power range of the 18 I thought I'd build my own design, but use Stephen's transformers since the last one turned out so great. This is my own design with queues taken from Marshall, Fender, Mesa, Soldano, etc... The amp has 2 channels and they are footswitchable. Just thought I'd share since you have been doing the cascade thing on here lately. I'm just finishing up the head cabinet next week.

Thanks,

Brian

Very cool. How does it sound?

Is that an Ironsound FX loop you have in there?
Schematic?

Well...I have several people wanting to buy them...so I think they sound pretty damn good. I think the circuit with the EL84's and the transformers have a great balance and super harmonic content. That is an ironsounds loop. The first one I did I just took the Plexi kit and added an extra tube and changed the preamp with a little extra board material. This one is the same, just nicer switching and loop. I don't have a schematic to post yet.

Cool. Very interesting build. I'd like to know more about it.

What are those 5 black dojiggers on the board between the bridge rectifier and the first 16uf filter cap? :?:

Vactrols, channel switching I'd imagine.

Yes...those are LDR's and I use the 6.3V taps off of the rectifier and then into a SS rectifier for switching. It took me a while to get my brain wrapped around how they work, but they are super fast and silent.

Here is a pic of the head cab I made and the logo installed. Taking it for a spin with the band tomorrow. Just a few small tweaks to make. There are green LED's in the chassis that light up the Acrylic when the Overdrive channel is engaged.

Thanks Stephen. 8)

@ thehoj: I'm not here to solicit Stephen's business...just posting what I did with some of his stuff. You can buy a kit from him and tweak it and add an extra tube for some really heavy sounds. I have talked to him some about doing a preamp design to mod into one of his amps. I'm going to record some samples and see what people think. I personally believe that the is a sweet platform to build amps for casual to gigging players. Mine is very loud thru a 4x12 and in most bars would be way too much...so I use a 1x12 and mic it or an attenuator, or VVR etc. Buy a kit from him and I will mod it for you. :)

Hey if you want to share the details - cool. I use Micrsoftt Visio for schematics, but there are several out there. I think kurtlives use a free one, he can fill you in.

I use ExpressSCH, very easy to pick up and learn. You can download it for free on the net, google it.

Beautiful job on the plexi ! And the amp too!

If you can post a picture of the amp with the LEDs lightning the panel it would be great!

And some audio clip when you have the time. :)

I will post some clips and night shots soon. I played with it at practice and need to make a few small changes to the normal channel. It is too hot and I'm getting some parasitic oscillation and then a slight crunch loss. I have seen this before, and need to change a resistor in the stage to attenuate the signal a bit. After I get these few kinks worked out I will make a layout.

Stephen...I can get Visio, are there certain shapes that you need for the caps/resistors or are they built in?

Brian

Here is a pic of its big brother at night....
