Adding two more tubes would impact the Chasiss, Power supply, Output transformer and turn it inot a DC-30. For now, I'll try to less invasive things!

One thing that could be done is to try an 8K transformer rather than the mis-matched 4K the Lightning uses, but I'll stick to the easier methods.

Thats what I meant by 'breaking the rules'....we're trying to make a lightning cleaner, not turn it into another amp made by matchless.. ;)

Didn't you say you were already using a DC30 output transformer in the first message of this thread?

How about more efficient speakers?

Yes, I have done that in the past and it cleaned up a bit FWIW.
