Hi All. I could use a little help. I finally (over 7 months) finished up my TC-15 and fired it up this morning. The EF-86 channel sounds great. I have nothing on the normal side. No scratches, hiss, or hum when I move the pots. I took a look at the diagram and everything looks to be in place and I checked for cold solder joints. On valve 2, do I need to tie pin one, six, and seven together when not using the 100K metal film resistor? Any advice on where to start? I have a gig this afternoon, so I will check voltages tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for the help

Harold

Get some pics up if you can.

Yes that 100K resistor needs to be there. It is a plate resistor, the plate is then direct coupled with the next stage's grid (which is a cathode follower stage).

That makes sense. The diagram had it listed as optional and it was not included in the kit. I'll pick one up, drop it in and report. Thanks Kurt

The diagram actually lists "Metal Film" as optional. Meaning you can use metal film composition instead of carbon composition. Metal film will be a bit quieter and maybe a lit clearer.

If you don't have that resistor installed that is why you don't have sound.

and you should have gotten one of each. Use the carbon comp if you have it.
..but I can see how you'd get confused with the "optional" wording

OK. So I found my 100K metal film resistor which was buried it in the box (sorry to imply it was not included). I installed it on valve 2 and fired it up. I now have sound, but it is VERY faint. I'm going to check the voltages on valve 2 to start. Any other suggestions? Thanks for all your help.

I figured it out. When I installed the 100K metal film, I had the resistor between the wrong pins. Fired up and sounds great. Thanks for all the help.
