Mullards. I have a complete set of Mullards (except for the PI, which is an 12ax7EH), and all I can say is WOW. Pretty awesome. A punchy, big sound that covers the whole sonic spectrum. Beware of the Groove Tubes Mullard reissue, though. They sound pretty good, but from most reports, they are unreliable and I had one croak on me already.

I usually put in Russian EL84s. they're pretty meaty and sound good. Bugle boys were nice as well. I never got any Mullards to try out (I wish). For the AX7s, Ranked - Ei, Shugang, EH. Ei & Shugang are tempermental, the EH are old reliable.

I think the Russian manufactured EL-84 tubes sound pretty good, too. 8)

I have to agree the old Russians are hard to beat for the money. They sound good, maybe not the greatest, but I would rather play gigs with something I'm not afraid of rattling. Save your Mullards for the studio.

When it comes to EL84's, I've been a devoted JJ user. Nice tubes.

also, that new JJ ECC830S is a great long plate preamp tube. I've been using them in my Lightning and refuse to put anything else in it.

I haven't tried the J&J EL84s, but their EL34s sound very nice to my ears. 8)
