 Post subject: Subbing 5879 for ef 86

How difficult would it be to use a 5879 instead of an ef 86 in a tc-15. I've been told the 5879 is less prone to microphonics.

5879's are also more plentiful (meaning cheaper!) than EF86's.

I've been meaning to experiment with the 5879 for a while now, just haven't had the time. :(

I've been using them for years instead of EF86. Great tube, I think I've only found one to ever be microphonic. I'm lucky, I have about 25 NOS ones left.

I saw this cool little add-on circuit that I might try out. I have a couple of 5879's to use and I thought this circuit would be the way to go.Anyone ever try this out?http://www.dougcircuits.com/EF86.html
