Has anyone tried diode rectification on this amp? I have a set of 18watt trannies that would do the job but have no 5v winding on the power transformer.

Keep the B+ in the 340 -360 range . It would be worth a try. I would expect it to be very tight sounding.

Then just use an EZ81 for the rectifier. You'll be more likely to get DC voltages in the safe region.Alternatively, place a 120ohm 10W resistor before the first filter cap, to simulate the presence of an EZ81 and keep voltages under control.

When using SS rectifiers, it's highly advisable to use fast recovery rectifiers, such as UF4007s, to help reduce background buzz.
