Hi, Trinitarians!

I just talked to Stephen today and was so impressed that I promptly bought a Trinity TC-15 kit. I joined the forums thereafter; seems like a great community here.

I have loads of questions, right out of the gate, and was hoping I could impose on the wiser among you, to consider a cab/speaker question. . .

I thought I wanted to do a combo 1x12 amp, so I could pair a Celestion Blue with the TC-15, but I am now wondering if maybe it makes more sense to just build a head, to take advantage of my existing 2x12 cab. I currently have a fairly new Avatar 2x12 cab with Greenbacks, which I otherwise use with a Straub Cantus 50W plexi head (EL34).

Much of the time, I will be using the TC-15 to get chimey/jangly Vox tones, playing vintage Rickenbackers and Telecasters. Can I get enough chime out of the Greenbacks, or should I plan on building out a cab with an Alnico Blue speaker? I just read that Matchless used Greenbacks sometimes, but unsure whether that was to move away from the straight Vox sound.

Thanks so much for considering!

Oh, and I can't wait to start soldering, in a couple of weeks. . . :D

A Greenback wouldn't be my first choice. A bit too smooth and mid/bass heavy for the TC-15 I think.

If you search there is a handful of speakers that Vox/Matchless/TC-15 really like. You are on the right track with the Blue imo.

Brent Bodrug likes the Celestion Vintage 30. We did a speaker shoot out with several amps - look for it in the forum. The v30 would be OK, but IMO the Celestion Blue or Tone Tubby Red, or even the ceramic version might be a better choices.
