What tubes?
What speaker?
What guitar (pickups)?

This will help

Well, i tried different tubes, but right now there are Tad el84 and tungsol 12ax7's.

I have 2 cabs i use it with, One with aTT alnico, and one with a celsetion GH12 anniversary.

Seems bright with both my strat with Suhr FL singles, and my other guitar with PRS Dragon II's.

I use my sIII plexi , or the tweed, most of the time because of this issue.

Thanks.

Nicolai

The Tungsol 12AX7 is known as a bright tube so I'd swap those out first. Try some Mullard reissues or JJs.

As for circuit mods the easiest way to decrease the brightness would be to lower C3 and C39 (180pF stock). Try bringing them down to around 100pF-120pF.

 kurtlives

You can also double the value of the cut cap and use that control more.

My build was based on earlier lightning designs, and seemed a little too bright to myself and others.
Looking at the circuit I think that was the original intent in some ways..."country bright".
I used the Westcorp PT, NOS tubes and 30uf / 10H / 30uf before the plates
Even with an 8k MM AC-15 OT and warm bias my build was a little shrill.

My solution was to reduced the volume control cap (180pf) to (50pf). Yours can be to taste.
I also made the cap switchable with a push pull 1 meg pot. Polystyrenes instead of silver Mica's throughout the amp smoothed out a little of the bite as well.

Yes, lowering the value of the bright cap will reduce the treble. Putting it on a switch is a good idea, bot everyone wants less treble. Interesting about the poly versus mica but hard to get those small pf values in poly. What brand did you use?

I've used those polystyrene caps before for bright caps. They are indeed a nice alternative to mica, not as "peakey".

They do have these tiny little thin leads though, don't like that.
