Hey guys

Well, I finally got back at it. Schooll broke for Christmas break this week, so I completely rewired the Lightning to get back to my troubleshooting. Most of my voltages are checking out but my output is very faint. I emailed Stephen to see how to go about checking the OT before taking it to a repair shop and he sent me this:

Quote:
Check to make sure that there is signal input to V1 and that the shileded cable shields are not shorted to the cables's center conductor. Do continuity test to make sure that is the case.

What happens when you touch a screwdriver to the input of V1 and V2. You should get a decent pop.

Post on the Trinity forum for help too.

I wouldn't think the OT is bad.

Cheers,

Thanks, Stephen. I touched a multi-tester prong to both ends of the wire, then to the prong of the tube socket. I get a pop, but it's quiet. It's more like static than a pop.

I checked the shielded wires as well.

I'll describe the behavior. When I turn up the volume, I can hear the overdrive increase. Same thing with the master. The output is faint though. You can hear the guitar played acoustically over the amp.

I just replaced the 22k 3 watt resistors and the volume went up slightly.

These are the new voltages. The heaters all check out.

V1) 125, _, 1_, _, _, 125, ___, 1, _

V2) 175, _, .5, _, _, 280, 175, 180, _

V3) 225, 1, 60, _, _, 225, 1__, 65, _

V4) ___, 8, __, _, _, ___, 370, 240, _

V5) ___, 8, __, _, _, ___, 370, 240, _

The following seem low:

V2, pins 3 and 7
V3, pins 1, 2, and 7

The B+ voltage from right to left: 375, 240, 330, 370, 240, 350

Make sure that the shielded cable ground was only going to pin 3 of the vol pot and not across 2&3. It has happened causing low volume.

Then to check the same deal on the input jacks and of course all the grounds connection on caps that are supposed to to ground are solid.
