Well, a few projects later I finally got the lightning with tremolo going. Image Image I started with a Ceri@tone kit and then just built a little add on board for the tremolo circuit. Image It is essentially the trem circuit from the Hurricane, the only problem is a now have ½ a 12AX7 just begging to be used for something, any ideas?

Eddie

P.S. The S2 transformers sound awesome! Image

erl, looks very nice & neat. i see you added a cut control as well.
did you change any stock component values in your mods? or is it still stock?
An extra 12AX7 - Reverb! You've got everything else!

Sweet looking amp! Is that an EH-GZ34 recto I see there? Is that a tube bias type tremolo? And, lastly, how does she sound?

Thanks! There are only a few tweaks I have done to it thus far. I put a 1M pot with a push-pull switch for the volume and put the “brightâ€

You could add reverb, but that'd take more than 1/2 a 12AX7! But there appears to be plenty of room for another preamp tube! :)

Actually, isn’t there a fold back reverb or something similar that only uses half a 12AX7 :?: It seems I’ve read something about it, maybe over at 18watt. I’m not sure if I want to go that route, I don’t really use reverb all that much, but it might be nice to have on there to experiment with, if I don’t like I can always remove it!

Ok, I think I’m going to try the foldback reverb Image It only takes have a 12AX7 and looks like it will be fairly easy to do, has anyone tried this?

I haven't used reverb in any of my amps thus far, but I would be very interested to hear how yours works. Sometimes I think it would be nice if my Spitfire clone had reverb in it.

Well, I got the foldback reverb to work, although it took a little doing, and made me feel like an idiot in the process. I actually tried several different schematics, but I was not getting any effect that I could tell, but if I bumped the tank I got the “bongâ€

Hey Eddie, could you measure your voltages around the tube and add them to the schematic mate, we are looking at a reverb for another project.

I added the voltages, but I’m having issues getting it to upload. :( Anyway, pin 1 is 226.4 and pin 3 is 1.7. Hopefully I'll be able to get the revised schematic posted soon. If you need any other readings let me know.

I was finally able to upload the schematic with the voltages on it, and have changed the above one to it. I also got a few more pictures of the amp with the reverb circuit in my gallery over at 18watt.
Lightning tremolo/reverb

Eddie

Update:

Well I have a couple of weeks with the reverb and I have found out a couple of things. First, the reverb pot is a 25k, not 250k, I have updated the schematic to reflect this. I did try using the 250k just to see how it would work, I could get more reverb, but it was MUCH more prone to runaway feedback, so I would defiantly stick with the 25k. Also, I found that a 3 spring tank (which is what I have listed on the schematic) works much better then the 2 spring type. I like it so much that I’m thinking about maybe doing an add on unit with the tremolo and reverb and put it on my 18 watt TMB down the road.

eddie,

Where did you inject the reverb signal?

I put mine into the cap just in front of the PI and after the Treble control.

And you connected to B+ 350V?
