can anyone help me with this. i would like to build the dr.z stingray but with my own tweaks . i like that it uses the ef86 front end and is kinda like a ac30/4 BUT i would like the controls to be master , volume , tone , and cut . maybe verb. and make it an 18 watter not 30 like the orignal ...

Go over to the downloads section at 18watt.com and check out the Vajra schematic under mods. It sounds very close to the amp you're looking to build.

Do you want the AC PI/Power or the 18 watt PI/Power .
If AC, then maybe a DC30 , 15 watt option only, EF86 section only. Gives you a single channel.
There is an EF86 normal channel 18watter out there and you could take that and jump channels too.

If you want to build a stangray, it's very simply an AC/4 (download the schematic from 18w) with a Matchless cheiftain mid control as the tone...there's 220k slope resistors on the mid control intstead of the normal 150k...and an unknown capacitor value...but you can experiment and come to the right value.

If you want to get 'paisley-tone' as suggested, but out of an 18 watter....I highly suggest looking into an AC-15 design as well...the fact of the matter is that all that's really needed for Paisley tone is something vox, a good compressor, a tele and ALOT of magic in the hands...

Thanks Stephen,

School, kids, & life took me away from amps for quite a few months...but it's good to be back! :)

Tele,
you might want to think about a half power switch

Here's the layout:
viewtopic.php?t=859&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

Coco just started offering the kits (check the want adds) I'm building one right now. Very cool amp.
No half power switch. But I'm sure you could add one. The head chassis has room, always a great thing.
