I am on a little journey sampling the different tones available from the deluxe. I am starting with the cleanest of the clean. Jazz on a deluxe is sweet. I get a big warm sound from p-90, tele's and humbuckers. This clip is done with an Epiphone L5 copy with 3 p-90's. It is going straight into the deluxe and then double miced in to a Mackie board to protools.

The tone is that classic bell like jazz guitar tone...maybe a little bright but what can you do.

Next we will get a little more aggressive with some 70's Steely Dan tonality.

I was plugged into the lower gain (Microphone) input. Tone on 4 volume on 3. And yes, it is big and warm like Mama Cass.

Sounds good, Larry. Coco, would this be clean enough for your Bluenoser client?

Why double mic'ed? Near-far, for some room reverb? Left-right, for a solid sound-stage? Or two different mics, one for low tones and one for highs?

Possibly in a tweed Twin config, but not in the Deluxe format. lbet had volume on 3 so for stage, a lot more volume would be required.

It's a habit I've gotten into. You've got more options that way. Besides, I find it replicates the phase difference that happens cuz we have 2 ears. I still have a long way to go before I get to the Mutt Lang stage. However like Mutt, both mikes were within 6 inches of the amp.

Here is a clip with my 80's Japanese Esquire Custom conversion. Fender neck pickup and Fralin bridge. I was plugged into the instrument channel with the volume on 4 or 5 and the tone on 8. This setting yields crunch when chording and the sweet spank when picking individual notes.

This is just starting to get in the the touch sensitivity zone where picking technique changes tone.

Enjoy

Ah cool, thanks. That's what I was trying to imply by "sound stage" - phase info, so that the listener can close his eyes and "see" the instruments as arrayed on the stage.

With two mics and one amp, I can enjoy the sensation of my head stuck right in the cabinet!

LOL - That's nuts, looks like a press conference at the UN

Your're right, Bionic. But I bet if he gets a great performance, he'll be able to get the sound he's looking for. :D

Nice tone. What speaker are you using with this Deluxe clip.

Hey Steve, I mistakenly deleted that track from the server. I could use your help with that...

In the mean time, I have been hammering that little amp with a faded Les Paul double cut with p90's. That little thing is a real treat to play. I used different pickup settings and had the amp set with tone on 10, volume on 5 or 6.

Hey all, I put together another clip featuring my Les Paul custom. STP followed by some SLS (Stone Temple Pilots, Slightly Lame Slide). The tone is fantastic and the amp stays musical even when I am playing major 3rds where they shouldn't be (for rock) and a major 7th chord. The amp really handled it well.

Volume was on 8 tone on 12. Hi input.

Enjoy
