Just finished a 5e3 build. I am trying to make it as quiet as possible and I have 2 questions;

1. Will moving the 68k grid stoppers off the board and to the tubes using a terminal strip and shielded wire make a big difference in reducing hum?

2. My PT has a center tap that is grounded. If I dont use the center tap and use the "artificial" 100 ohm to the pilot light method, will this reduce hum?

Thanks,
Jon

1. Won't reduce hum. Maybe make the amp more stable, yes. But many many tweeds over the decades have been built with the grid stoppers on the board with fine results.

2. Probably not. Depends how balanced or unbalanced the resistors/PT winding is. Try both and see if one is better. DO NOT do both simultaneously.

Absolutely, none at all. Those grid stoppers only affect high frequencies, like from AM radio stations or hih frequency oscillations inside the amp.

For a quiet amp you just need to focus on clean lead dress and grounding.
