I just completed a Tweed Deluxe and know where you are coming from, for me I liked the fact that it wasn't step by step as it gave me a chance to think. Once you get going you will be okay like any trip sometimes the hardest step is the first one.
I started with putting together the tube sockets, output transformer, and pots, then went with soldering up the eyelet board by following the layout diagram starting form the right side then marking off each joint as it was completed. I made sure not to solder an eyelet until all the wires going there were in place as it is hard to unsolder and install a wire after the fact.
