Hi folks,

The cabinet is "ready for tweed", and the kit came.

I am starting my assembly. I have fastened all the hardware to the chassis, and I'm screwing up my courage to start the soldering.

I decided to add a VRM right from the outset.

But I am struggling a little with my planning.... The VRM came with my kit, and it came with two sets of diagrams, but I can't seem to find a good set of installation instructions... or a "wide angle" picture to get a broader sense of how it is installed.

Here are some 'basic' questions... (sorry if this info is out there somewhere, and I just can't find it)

1) What - exactly - does the VRM do? How do I use it?

2) The VRM comes with its own pot. and dial. Where do I mount those?

Hi all....

I "took the summer off"... now I am starting back to my Tweed kit build...

I am just about to assemble my VRM, but I am struggling with two questions:

1) Resistors

The plans call for two 100K resistors, but I seem to have received one 100K and one 220 K.

are the 100K and 220K interchangeable? If I am supposed to use the 220, does it matter which position it goes in? ("R1" or "R2")


2) Wiring the Pot to the board.

My pot has five terminals on it. Three are together in one gang. Two are off the back. From the instructions, I cannot figure out exactly which terminal goes to which connection on the board. What (if anything) do I do with left over terminals on the pot?

Yes, an omission on the layout

If you are using the VRM pot to replace the power or standby swithc, these tabs are where you connect those wires to.
If you are mounting it on the back, and not replacing any switch, you ignorethem.

My preference is to mount the VRM in the power hole replacing the power switch and leave the standby alone.

The pot 3 lugs need to be trimmed to mount the board onto the control, or run leads of wire from each lug to the appropriate place on the board if it is mounted remotely.

I had the right parts, but I was just looking at an older drawing. Got it.

I plan to use the VRM in the place of the power switch, so I now understand that I use the back lugs on the pot for the wires that otherwise would have gone to the power switch.

So... (hopefully) I only have one more question about assembling and installing my VRM... How do I know which way to line up the leads from the pot lugs to the terminals on the board?

A picture is worth a thousand words....

Is the attached correct? (EDIT This was the easier way to take the picture) Or do I have it reversed, left-to-right? (EDIT I am now thinking that I do have it reversed in this picture) (or does it matter?)

Btw the 220K vs 100K resistor just makes the VRM more useful at lower settings.
