Hi guys this is my first post. I was wondering if anyone has tried this EF86 Mod in their 5e3 http://www.dougcircuits.com/EF86.html. Would the stock Heyboer be able to handle the extra load? I was thinking about doing this mod in combination with some EL84 yellow jackets for Vox like tones. Thoughts?

For all that trouble you might as well build a TC15 or some other Vox type amp.

EL84s and EF86 don't lend themselves to the Tweed design.

Thats kind of the point though isn't it. Just looking for a little more versatility in the Amp. It's not as if you can't change it back.

Sure understandable

But with an EF86 and EL84s the amp won't be a Tweed Deluxe anymore.

True, but it might be interesting all the same.

It appears that both of these mods involve adding something external to the amp, rather than changing the circuitry that's already there. In that case, it appears to be do-able, and also easily reversible. So there wouldn't be any real harm in trying - apart from the financial kind.

So would you propose an ef86 instead of the AY7? That would be a lot of push. Even a AX7 pushes too hard on the down stream PI IMO.
You would really need to pad it down I think.

No the EF86 is added to the existing circuit so it could be added or taken out at any time.
