Hi everyone
I just assembled and wired up the kit. I’m at the stage of checking voltages with no rectifier.
Rectifier pins between 4&6@733vac and 4 and 6 to the ground 365 & 363, across 2&8 -5.3
V4- across 2&7-6.5, V3- across 2&7-6.4
V2- across 4/5&9-6.4, V1-across 4/5&9-6.4

With rectifier tube plugged
V1-pin1-103 , pin3-1.5 , pin6-97, pin8-1.5
V2- pin1-130, pin3-0.9, pin6-153, pin7-6.5, pin8-29
V3- pin3-350, pin4-260, pin8-28
V4- pin3-336, pin4-260, pin8-28

Voltages seems all off according to chart. First time to test plugged speaker and guitar, no output, no sound. What did I missed? I double check again the wiring following the point to point diagram they are seems correct. I followed instruction step by step up to voltage testing which looks off the chart.

No sound at all usually means something isn't connected. Recheck all your wiring and solder connections. Make sure all the parts are in the right places. Make sure all the jumpers are in place under the board. Make sure all the grounds are good. Also make sure nothing is accidentally shorted to ground in the signal path.

Your B+ readings are low as well. This could mean a bad connection or a resistor that's the wrong value.

What does the voltage read at the standby switch with the switch closed and all tubes in place?

Thanks for the reply, I went through again and found a short and fix, and redo some wirings then check voltages again. Following readings now with no rectifier V5-pin 4&6-733v,pin 4 and 6 to ground both 364v, across pin 2&8-5.2
V4 and V3 across pin2&8 both 6.5
V2 and V1 across pin 4/5 and 9 both read 6.5

With rectifier tube B+ 376vdc
With all the tubes inserted,speaker plugged
V1- pin1-104, pin3-1.5, pin6- 96, pin8- 1.5
V2-pin1-132, pin3-0.9, pin6-155, pin7-8, pin8-29
V3- pin3-353, pin4-263, pin8-28
V4- pin3-337, pin4-263, pin8-28

After the voltage check, plugged guitar there is output coming out of speaker, increase volume but volume the same to the max just the distortion is changing. Volume is not there.
What I noticed was there was a smoke coming from the connection of output to the board, the resistor start smoking, check connection ok and notice it has different colour code suppose to be yellow-violet-red, what I have is yellow-violet-brown. I remove the resistor and measure the resistance 4.63k ohm. Is that the right value for 4k7 2W and the right resistor for that circuit?
NOTE :The bottom pic is the location of the resistor that I remove, I just place the part and not soldered

it's supposed to be a 4k7 resistor, yellow/violet/red. Looks like the one you had in there was 470 ohms, yellow/violet/brown. It would have smoked, all right, and changed value. Put in a new 4k7 2-watt resistor and check your voltages again.

I replaced the resistor with 4k7 no more smoke and rattling but the volume when I test still not there. Was it a poor connection issue or defective part? The voltages in V1 drop in half from the last check.

Looks like the resistor was the wrong value. 470 ohms instead of 4700.

Now check all the solder connections at the tube pins and at the eyelets on the board. Especially the ones feeding B+ to V1. Also make sure the jumpers on the bottom of the board are in place with good connections.

Measure your resistors before you install them to make sure. Recheck connections and trace the circuit through with a continuity chacker to make sure the wires are going where they ar supposed to.
Ifthe voltages ar good,it is in thesignal path. If you used coax, make sure the shield does not accidentally touch the inner core or melted during installation.

I checked and redo the connections to make sure a good solid connections and in the process I also check the values of caps and resistors and what I found 2 dead orange caps .1uf which are in V1 and V2 circuit reads OL on my meter and also compare to the other 2 which have the right value. Was that wrong resistor value ( supposed to be 4k7) cause this 2 caps to fail?
And also can you send a replacement for the bad caps and 4k7?
Highly appreciated if you send replacement parts.

Thanks Stephen, I received the parts and installed it today it came alive but there is a hum as I increase the both volume and tone pot and also there is no gain and crunch. Also the clean one is not there. What could be the issue? I made sure ground is tight and reflow all connections and ground joints. Does the preamp tubes not good that’s why no crunch and clean tone and also hum? Any suggestion? Thanks

It could be a bad tube, but that is not likely.

Recheck all your wiring and solder connections.

What do the voltages read now?
