OK, Back to the Triwatt. :D

Looking at the back panel, I didn't see any provision for external bias test points to make setting the bias easier.

Any plans for doing so? I've heard that it makes setting things easier :P
Also, will the bias be individually adjustable so that mismatched tubes can be used?

No provision for either at this point in time. Keep it in mind tho for the production one.
Still collecting the last of the parts. Phil & I will blitz construction soon.

I also like the idea of external bias points.

I know the second this comes out as a kit I will buy one. When I get it the first thing I will do to the chassis is add bias points. Just makes biasing so easy.

I absolutely need clean headroom with my band (right now I'm using a Bumbox Lead 50 that I got in trade for the m@z Jr.). I'm after the 40w version when it is ready. I'm really hopefull that the 40w Triwatt can bump out the Bumbox the same way that my 12w Trinity Deluxe evicted the m@z Jr.

In that case, as much as I want to promote the TRIWATT, wouldn't a regular 50W Hiwatt actually be what you need, maybe like a Hiwatt DR504....?

It would, but I'd prefer to build my own amp if possible. I was so happy with my experience building the Deluxe, I'd like to add a Hiwatt styled amp that I built to my collection. Still, if I'm lucky enough to come across a 504 for a decent price at a time when I have cash in my poscket, I probably wouldn't say no.

If this works out, you'll replace the iron with 50 watt iron, and use EL34 & you'll have a Custom 503 AKA 50 watt TRIWATT.

Now, wouldn't that be cool. 8)

Yes, I think bias points would be great to have. Just bear in mind, guys, what you see here is purely the prototype model.

IMO food you've cooked yourself always tastes the best, and amps you've built yourself always sound the best. :D I've now gotten rid of all the commercially-built amps I used to have, and only kept my own builds.

There would probably be a couple of resistor value changes in the power supply, and then you would need to bias the amp to suit the tubes. Nothing complicated.

Too late. It's over at my place now!

Still a fair bit of wiring up and soldering pots left to do, then we get into testing this baby.... :D

Actually, I would like to borrow your ears when we come to make some final tweaks to the voicing of the amp. :)

Build status is that we held a work party yesterday.

I wired up the Primary power while Phil build the board but not before every capacitor was tested for noise and 'polarity'. We both learned a lot from that excercies (i.e. which lead connects to the outer foil).

So the TRIWATT is now in Phil's shop for the next stage.

And we talked about making a trek to the bgroup Chapel . Shouldn't be long we hope. :)

Nah, I think people of all ages know that one!!

For those that don't know, I recently upped my studio ante! I just bought a 100 year-old church that I've turned into my studio!! 8) So the "chapel" is my new studio called "Sly-Fi Chapel"!! It even has lodging for out of town folks so the Trinity forum family can come visit! :D

Sweet!

It's nice to see another Triwatt out there! Mine's a little different, and not nearly as nicely made.......

Sorta like this one?

I call it the Triwatt JP504! It's a Jimmy Page/SAP preamp mated to a DR504 power section, with a switchable choke. It also has a footswitchable preamp gain stage which is neat. I had originally planned to use 4 JJ 6v6s and install a half power switch. I still might do that.

I've been working on it since last summer and got it up and running last month. The cab is a custom 2-12 from Jeff Swanson. It sounds awesome... With the choke engaged, it'll do the Marshally thing, and with the 100R, it does the 2 hole Hiwatt thing. I prefer it this way. Oh, and unlike most Hiwatt inspired amps, it sounds best with Celestions!

The use of the name is a complete coincidence, as I've been Tripower455 on every forum I've been on for over 10 years. Last year, when I built my DR504 clone, I used Hiwatt plates. A couple of guys on VHR sugessted that I take pride in my work and personalize it. I decided to personalize this one, hence TRIWATT...... I don't mind if you guys use the name!

Just don't think that I stole it from you guys!

It still needs some cleaning up inside.

8) You always know you picked a good name when it shows up somehere else! If you're cool with that, we'll continue to use it OTW we'd change it to Custom 203.

Your build looks pretty nice. Stick around and help us get ours into production! Sonds like there will be some similarities.
