So maybe we've found the generic name for the Eminence speaker that Reeves Amplification is selling - or at least something pretty close to it. That description of the Tonker's tone also matches well with my impressions of bgroup's vintage Fane-loaded Hiwatt cab.

The speaker that Reeves uses are cast aluminum frame, while the Tonker is stamped steel.

The Lynch Super V12 also is supposed to be another take on the Fane, but the magnet is lighter than the Tonker, and it has a cast frame. Not sure what the specs on the Reeves Speakers are, and if they are also the same as the Lynch Super V12.

What matters is the magnet, the voice coil and the cone. The stamped steel frame will make the Tonker a little cheaper to manufacture, and that's something I can live with. :)

I've got Ceramic Thames in 2 cabs........ an Avatar open back 2-12, and a Swanson "Hylight" 2-12. I like them, alot.... Until I score a set of purpleback Fanes, they are my benchmark for Hiwatt tone.....

I also have a pair of Swanson's "OEM" cast frame Fanes that I got in the Hylight cab. They were unacceptably dark in that cab, but sound great in my open back 2-12 combo. I initially put them in my JP504, but wanted to try a V30/G12H30 mix in that cab for a while. I just put them back in there after a few months of the Celestions. I'm gonna use them on a few more band rehearsals before deciding to keep them in there or not. The Celestions punched through the mix nicely, but the cleans were a little sterile. The Fanes need a bit of a mid boost to cut, but sounded great with the band the other day.

I've also got a pair of Tonkers, which are great speakers too. I have them in my SF Twin at the moment. I put them in there after too many hours of trying to dial in the K120s that were in it, and never getting past the icepick tones. The Tonkers sound great in the Twin FWIW. I have never tried them with my Hiwatts in a 2-12. I did have one in a 1-12 closed back cab for a while, and it sounded great. I used it primarily with my Marwatt.

The first Who tape I owned. In fact, I still have it! Circa 1980 or so I think...

The unfinished. wooden cab looks great...the fully dressed one doesn't do it for me. I like the look of a valance on the cabs for some reason.....as well, the piping on the tolex joins on the cabs doesn't do it for me..just personal preference that's all..I'm sure it will sound great :D

Now that's a beautiful sight for sore eyes. :D So totally Hiwatt.

I think my dream would be to gig with two of those cabs stacked under a Triwatt. :D

The bare wood version does have it's charm. But I think it makes a more eloquent and powerful statement in its Hiwatt colours (if you can call them that).

Now this is Hiwatt colours 8)

Now, a Triwatt in red tolex, with white front and a red cab with a big red maple leaf on white grill cloth.....I'd be game for that

Dunno, sounds more like colours you'd want to do a Traynor or Garnet amp in.

Nah.....it doesn't need to be 'from' Canada to look Canadian

Besides...the Triwatt is Canadian, right

Don't you mean "The Triwatt is Canadian, eh?" :)

The man does have a point though, but that would be a bit too over-the-top for my taste. Not a fan of the UJ Hiwatt either actually. Each to his own!

One of our local music stores had one of these (probably still has!). He let me play it with one of the shop guitars.

It was neat, but way louder, and not as lively sounding as my 504 clone or Hylight. Could've been the speakers needed break in. Not to mention, this would look ridiculous in most of the places we play, not to mention overkill in the "power and volume" dept......

No local Hiwatt dealers around here (I don't think). There was one about 3 hours from here (yes - there are other towns in NL than St. John's!) but I don't know if they're still around or still a dealer.

I understand the newer Fanes are a little different tonally than the old ones. I have no way to do a comparo though so I'm blowin smoke a little there! Just what I've read.
