Finished my Triwatt build last night and it fired up first go much to my surprise. All the numbers were within 2 or 3 VDC of where they should be except Pin 6 of the PI which was 262 rather than 236. Anyone see a problem with that?

Other than the few things which have been addressed, I was a little confused with the biasing. For me, lowering the bias was achieved by turning the screw clockwise, whereas the manual says down is fully anti-clockwise??

No squealing with the OD, though when I first pulled it out, it scared me off my chair. Big Boost!

That was the only discrepancy in mine also - I got very similar numbers in fact - I got 275 on pin 6. Phil thinks that's because I have a 12AX7 in the PI at the moment.

Yeah - I would be the one guy with the squeal problem! :)

Congrats on your successful TRIWATT build GregL. You are officially hooked!!

Nice looking gear too. What tubes did you use in the end? Was that a AX7 in the PI, and which power tubes? C'mon 'fess up!

Don't you think it's time to do some recording and post some clips?

Maybe it's time for Maltone to come over again & give that Green Machine a spanking!

Is it too late to get some internal shots of you build or are you too busy playing it now?

I tried the KT's yesterday and today I picked up a set of EH 6V6's which I think will stay in. Tung Sol in V1 and a JJ in V2, I am using a AT7 in V4.

I have a Tonebone switcher so I can go back and forth between the plexi and Triwatt - great for a clean/dirty switch, they are very different beasts.

Did I do something wrong with the bias??

I will post some clips soon, don't you worry!

Greg

With the bias it depends on what you mean by increase and decrease. The reason is because, as the bias voltage increases, the idle current through the tube decreases. So it depends whether you're talking about voltage or current.

And yes, 12AX7s will bias to different voltages than AT7s. The published PI voltages only hold true with a 12AT7. The early Hiwatts were all designed to use AT7s in the PI.

Falcon Jr. , I think they only made them for a few years... , same as a white falcon, just a little smaller body. Sounds particularly good through the plexi.

Zaphod, was talking about the bias voltage, down is fully clockwise and as I turn the pot anti-clockwise the ma increase. No big deal, works fine!
