Hello, all! I recently completed a Triwatt build. While I love the clean tone on this amp, especially with KT66's(!), the overdrive only sounds good about halfway up. Beyond that I start to experience some weird octave-up effect like a fuzz pedal. Was hoping someone would have some suggestions for me to fix this. Here are some pics. I know they are not the best and I can attempt to take more if that would be helpful.

Cant say I've ever heard this but try placing the coax to the OD switch Above the board, not below it.

Maybe shorten up some of the leads around that tube as well.

Also a number of the solder joints on the turrets look suspect to me.

So I reflowed most of the turrets and moved around some wires all to no effect. Replaced V2 with other tubes without effect. Finally I decided to put a 12AX7 in the PI position instead of the 12AT7 I had in there so I wouldn't have to drive the preamp so hard to get good distortion. Now it's all good. Don't have to turn the overdrive past 2 o'clock to get pretty saturated distortion, but I still have plenty of clean headroom, too.

Good news. Possibly the AT7 was suspect though. But as long as you like the result, that's the objective.

While I'm at it, can anyone explain why the pre-PI MV on this amps works so well? Although the amp sounds best when cranked, it sounds pretty convincing at lower settings on the MV as well.
