No matter how much I read about impedance I'll never completely understand it. I'm okay with that. Mainly I just want to make sure I don't blow anything up.

I've got an 8 ohm 12" speaker in my Tramp. I would like to run it with a 2x12 extension cab that has two 8 ohm 12" speakers in it. I'm not sure if they are running in series or parallel. I guess that's probably important, but I have no idea what to look for in order to figure that out.

So, three 8 ohm speakers at the same time. Which ohm setting to I put the Tramp on?

As long as you have a load (speaker) connected to your amp at all times you're good, nothing will be blowning up. The exact impedance of the load doesn't really as long as their is a load. Getting the right impedance just allows for optimal transfer of energy (and thus tone) from the amp to the speaker.

To see if your 2x12 is wired in series or parallel see if the two + tabs of the speakers are connected together (parallel) or if one of the speakers + connects to the other speakers - (series).

Thanks for the info. Here's what I see in the cab. The "+"s are connected, the "-"s are connected, and the speaker cable is connected to the "+" of one speaker and the "-" of the other.

KL is right... doesn't really matter as long as speakers are present.

A light went on in my head when I realized that the impedance selection switch should be renamed a "color" or "mojo" or "breakup onset" switch or something. When you realize that it is really just another knob on your amp that you can use to shape your sound it is enlightening.

Set it to what sounds best to your ear!
