I am replacing my Mosfet in my VRM circuit. When I ordered a new one, I mistakenly just ordered a generic insolator pad (http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDet ... r=532-4180) and not the Sil-pad that originally came with my Tramp 5 years ago. Three questions:

1. Can I just reuse the old Sil-pad that was with the original VRM on my Tramp year 2012?

2. If I need to replace the Sil-Pad, is this the Sil-Pad400? If not, which model?

3. If I use the “new” generic insolator pad that I ordered from mouser (see link above), do I need to use grease, and if so is this the kind of grease we use on Computer CPU's and heatsinks? If not can someone give me a link to find the correct grease?

I somehow thought that the isolation pad was only to keep the mosfet away from the metal chassis and that it did not need grease. So why the grease? Is it to dissipate the heat?

Thanks

C2

The "grease" is used to help heat transfer from the device to the heat sink. In this case the heat sink is the chassis. It doesn't hurt to use it and you can use the same kind that is used on computer CPU heat sinks.

If the original Sil-pad is still in good shape you can reuse it, as long as the MOSFET is electrically isolated from the chassis.

Dontuse computer grease it may be conductive. Try to reuse the grey sil pad or shoot us an email and we'll mail you a replacement.
