Hey all. I finally broke down & ordered a "Tramp in a Box" today. Stephen's also sending me a 10" Tone Tubby San Rafael. It will be my first 10" speaker.

It will be a KT-66 for the alternate power tube option. Hopefully it'll be JTM45-ish. If it is, you may hear me doing the Homer drool thing clear across the country. :D

I was gonna do a head but decided the compact combo would be convenient for the 3 times a year I play anywhere outside the house. :) Plus there's that convenient "Tramp in a Box" thing...

I plan to stain the cab. Haven't decided on the color yet. It'll either be a dark brownish stain or something a little more funky like blue or bright cherry. Who knows what I'll come up with.

Guess my "Tramp in a Box" is on the way! More solder fumes in a couple of weeks...and stain everywhere too! :D

You're forgetting the Newfoundland factor my friend. 10 days minimum. I guess in shipping time "half an hour later" translates into at least 2 days! Guess the trucks have to slow down for moose...

Actually if it wasn't for the regional dist center in Dieppe NB (Canada Post Limbo) it would probably be here in a week.

With my newfie buddies, I think that means lets party and get drunk.
Every time the newf half of the family comes over, the party is not far behind. :D

For the Tramp, you can try using a pre stain conditioner before you stain. It will give a more even apperance to the final stain.

Well, we don't ALWAYS get drunk...the party bit is very true though! Hey - we live on a foggy chunk of granite in the Atlantic - what do you expect??? :D All we can really do in that situation do is party & build amps!

I'll look into the conditioner. Thanks for the tip.

In what can only be described as a miracle, my Tramp kit is now at the PO awaiting pickup. Less than 5 business days? Practically unheard of! Guess CP had a slow week.

No I think they have gotten a little better. It was 2 days for mine to arrive.
Enjoy the build.

Canada Post seems to be on their "game" these days. I got a package from BC in two days!

You get your Tramp yet Emo?

Yeah - picked it up this morning. Got a bit of a start on it but I've got work stuff to take care of this weekend. Probably won't really get into it until next week some time.

Hey all. just a quick update.

I have the Tramp chassis 90% complete. Just waiting on one component. Should be here tomorrow or Monday I would think.

I picked out a stain for the cabinet. Minwax Red Mahogany. I also picked up some conditioner and it appears to have helped. The grain really pops. Stephen sent me a cab with plenty of character in the grain. I think it's gonna look quite nice.

First coat of stain is done. The second will be done before I pack it in this evening. I haven't decided if I'll leave it raw or add a coat of clear. Depends on how it turns out I guess.

Here's a couple of pics of the unassembled cab with the second coat of stain.

i like this stuff, cleans up with water , wipe on application , so no brush stroke. I have used all the wipe ons with good results.

Thanks Taz. I was concerned about brush strokes also so I was looking at that product. The more idiot proof the better!

updated pic of the completed cab. Not too bad for a first go at staining pine. There's a couple of spots where the stain just didn't want to take, but nothing serious. there's also a bit of a kink in the grill cloth I'm going to pull that off & re-attach it when I get a chance.

I used the Minwax satin wipe-on clear & it worked great.

Thanks. It turned out better than I expected. Guess I won't have to tolex over it after all. :)

If you're wondering if I'm working on the Tramp again yet, no. The pot/switch still hasn't arrived. Freakin CP. They were just teasing me by getting the kit here so quickly!

If you're inquiring about building in general, not much other than the Tramp. I do have a 'Wreck-ish build happening, but that one's on the shelf until I get some time to debug it. It's complete but something is amiss in there somewhere. I may just re-build it using the Francesca layout.
