All- I just finished my third amp build (second from Trinity), a Tramp, and it sounds fantastic, but I have a question.

The build went smoothly and powered up with no problems. All voltages are within 10% of where they should be. It's running the 6L6 option. However, I notice that to get relatively good sound, I have to run the VRM up around 9 as well as the volume and master volume. Is this normal? Initially I thought something was wrong because at first startup I set all the dials at the halfway point and I could hardly hear any sound.

Other than that I'm so glad I discovered Trinity amps and the Tramp!

Check new ver. 3.51 of build guide online. Had an error in the color code for for the 100K resistor that connects between the Mosfet gate and power control (near the VRM). The board stuffing guide (page 43 or 44) had it listed as Br-Bk-Or (10K), it should be Br-Bk-Y (100K). Caught it on my second and corrected it on my first Tramp build which actually made the VRM operate as designed. Post back either way if that's it or not

Thanks for the quick reply- I'll definitely check that tomorrow. However, I don't go by color codes when placing resistors as I use my meter and go by physical values. That's not to say I can't make a mistake though

Hankules- I checked the resistor in question and it was correct. The build guide I received was the most current one, as I purchased the kit about two weeks ago. I also bypassed the VRM just to make sure it didn't make a difference, and it didn't.

I suspect what it's doing is likely "normal" for this design, because it certainly gets a volume boost in 'tude mode. It just seems odd with VRM and master wide open, if volume knob (in tweed mode) is on 6, you can literally talk over it while standing in front of it. FWIW, I have it in a tweed deluxe cab with a BBQ 12" Alnico speaker.

I have to remember it's a SE amp, but I figured running a 6L6 it would have more output. Don't get me wrong, the tone from this little gem is absolutely magnificent! My strat and tele have never sounded so good! I was just curious if this operation was normal since I don't have anything to compare it to. I also built a tweed Champ running an 8" BBQ alnico speaker, and they're both about the same level of "loud". Unfortunately I don't currently have a db meter to measure it with.

"Relatively good sound" is subjective so what does that mean? Clean, distorted, loud, quiet etc. Can you add a little more detail?

It should get quite loud with a 6L6 and VRM at 9
