Hey everyone, I’m Lucas. Lately I’ve been playing a Yamaha Pacifica through a hand-me-down solid state combo, and while it sounds fine at bedroom volume, I ran into something odd at rehearsal: when I turn it up to cut through the drummer, the low notes turn into a muddy blur and the highs almost sting the ears, like the amp can’t decide where it wants to sit. I tried moving pedals around in the chain (boost before drive, modulation after, then the other way around), but nothing feels quite right. Do you think this is more about the amp’s limitations, or am I just missing something basic in how to shape EQ and gain at higher volume?
