I have a 2 el84 18 watt and waiting on parts for my 4 el84 36watt and was thinking about a 6v6 18-25 watter.
the output inpedence is the same for both tubes. and you would add a bias circuit to the output tube circuit. Is there any problems with the pi circuit working with 6v6s.

I looked at mark huss plexi 6v6 circuit. There are some differences to the 18 watter. i asume that they make the amp sound more plexi? I am after a 6v6 amp that has in the 18watter sound neighborhood.

I've built a combo with an 18 watt like output stage. The PI is actually a cross between a deluxe reverb and 18 watt (they are very close). It is an interesting sound. The 6V6s need a bit more voltage to really open up, 350-415, so I would get a power tranny capable of that.

The biggest difference is that the 6V6s are more open sounding. You can get a really good clean sound. The distorted sound it good too, but I find myself using more gain with that amp than my 20 watt-like amp. It is a little more of the JTM-45 vibe than the Plxi-ish vibe of the 18.

All in all I'm glad I've got both, because it gives me a nice range of tones.
