I bought some 12 guage teflon, cost me 17.00 for 100 feet. I thought I got a good deal until I started to try and work with it. Way too big.

At the same place I can get 25 foot rolls of colored 18 awg teflon wire for 9.00. Can I use 18 awg everywhere in the amp? Except for the 120vac coming in.

Yes, 18 guage is more than enough. For most of the amp 22 guage would be fine. A lot of guys use 22 guage for everything except the heaters and use 18 or 20 for them.

That's heavy stuff. I agree with Richard. That's what I do as well.

BTW, Have fun stripping that teflon covering. Does anyone have a good technique for that?

I use to work at Grumman Aerospace and later Northrope/Grumman. There were automatic strippers that we used. They clamped the insulation and then stripped with a squeeze of a handle. The ones for teflon were different than the ones used for other plastics. The gripping surface had a tooth to grip the insulation to avoid slipping.

They are available from many tool suppliers for around $30.00, but do not allow stripping very short pieces. A trick was to strip off a large section to create a bare end and then use the tool to cut the insulation to lenth. This tool never nicks the wire, so the insulation just slides down the bare wire from the first strip.

At Grumman I was a technical writer for a short while. These strippers were specified to be used on teflon.

I use a tool made just for that. Stripping wires. Sometimes I strip 500 conductors a week on my jobs. So I need the tool. Imagine trying to do that with cutters. Some guys do though.

With teflon it is a bit harder. Especially the 12awg stuff. I have no choice to use a wire knife and cut a ring around in the teflon where I want the strip to start, then use my tool. Works great.

I can get a 1,000 foot roll of 18awg teflon wire for 200.00.
there are three wires open twisted colors: orage, black, white.
Thats like 3,000 feet of teflon 18awg wire for $200.00 canadian.
