Currently working on the "Dial in your tone" article. I should have it done by Sunday. It will force you to rethink what you do with those little round things on the front of your amp and why you do it.

Cheers
LBET

I have another question for the mag concerning common terminology.

What is the correct way to establish the "noise floor" of your amp build?

What I mean is, the amp will be "noisy" with a guitar plugged in and no hand on the strings. The noise will increase as the MV and volume are turned up. I get the impression that some builders think that this is not normal.

So should the noise floor be considered to be with no guitar or cord plugged in? What is the correct way to set up the amp to determine if the amp is "normal" or "noisy"?

Bump for my question :D

Also, Ibet, you said that the "dial in your tone: would be ready by Sunday. I noticed that you didn't say which Sunday. :D :D :D :D

(I use that trick all the time)

I think we'll have to start adding our own articles , that way each week something will be added.

hem, wait a minute that's not a bad idea.
Jeez, I was just playing.
What do you think Coco.
Of course you would have to review.
This isn't a bad idea.
Up to you.
My 1st article could be the comparison of speakers that I'll be reviewing with the sIII. I have at least 14. and my son set me up now to be able to record so this could get cool. I'll be using a sm57 direct to a Tascum US-122 into Cubase, with a dual 64 computer from hell(Sweet!). My son's doing demo's right now and they sound awesome.
Again, up to you :?:

Just so you know those 14 speakers range from Jensen 1963 to today. I have Jensen, Gibson, Eminence. I'm going to have fun. Wish Ibet's new baby was here. :D
I'll just have to make do, :D

lbets been busy lately, playin' his Baby. I'll confer with him.

Of course, you are welcome to do a review of your 14 speakers and post it! I can also lock a thread so as to keep the subject matter on track. More like a magazine.

if anyone has a layout ?

All I have are headphones right now. I'd love a pair of powered monitors.
I definitely have any part to build them but need some kind of layout.
The Tascum US-122 accepts powered monitors. It would sound much better instead of using headphones.
Any idea's/ layout's out there?
Found them

There are some pretty funny comments about my tardyness so, in appreciation of your collective senses of humor, I bashed out part one of the article tonight (while watching some Bruce Lee movie).

Ok, we all must wonder, at some time or another, how did that guy get that tone? What is he using to make that sound? More importantly, how can I get that tone? In this article I will try to shed some light on this subject by talking about what I have learn from trial and error, talking to some respectable players about their tone and a little more trial and error.

This article will provided some insight into how I dial in crunch/rock tone on my Trinity 18. Most people, when dialling in dirty tones, will tend to turn up the gain turn up the volume, treble and rip away. No I say. Try this with the TMB channel on your Trinity 18.

If you have one, use a guitar with humbucking pickups. Plug it into the higher gain input. Select the bridge pickup and set the bridge tone to 5 or 6 on the guitar. Turn the master up to 5 or more. While strumming the guitar turn the Volume up slowly until you can just start to hear some distortion. Ok it is time to set the tone controls. Think of the as Gain controls for different frequencies. These will let you tell the amp what part of the signal gets the most juice. You really want to curtail treble frequencies for two reasons. 1) That’s where keyboards and cymbals live and 2) Would you like to use the neck pickup at all? So, for me, set your treble control to two (2). Depending on your choice of speakers you may want to change this a bit but no more that 3 please. If you are using bright celesions like blues or H30’s you can set the treble to 1. This may also change with your guitar or guitar pickups.

Ok. Now that we have set the treble you may need to up the volume on the amp just a bit to get the same level of distortion you had before. This is ok. Now the mids should be set to at least 5. Once again, depending on the rest of your gear, this can go up or down. I like to set this very high, say, nine or ten. These are the native frequencies for guitar so I like to LET EM HAVE IT! If you start a 5 and turn up the mids and play a little bit you will hear what that control has to offer. As for the bass, at this time on this amp no more than 3 or 4. Driving and amp into overdrive with bass frequencies is not what you want as a guitar player…..unless you are playing the solo from “American womanâ€
