I've been hitting some local fabric stores as an alternative to purchasing tolex online. I've found some marine grade vinyl coverings that look exactly like what most would call tolex. Are these marine grade vinyl coverings ok to use?

Thanks,

Eric

As long as the glue you use does not 'melt' it, you should be OK. I prefer Tolex to be thicker rather than thinner. I have found the automotive grade to be decent the few times I needed to use it.

I have found the marine vinyl is a bit too stretchy, the best I have found so far is the stuff that was produced for vinyl roof coverings for cars, this is very similar to tolex however I could only get it in black or beige.
