I am Nicolai.

I am new,and just ordered a 18 watt plexi which weill be my first build.

However, somebody else build me this amp,but i cant find him,and i am not sure which design it is.I think it's a bassman of some sorts....
I sounds great, but has a loose connections somewhere so i can't gig with it.
I know its a mess, but could somebody figure out what it is.:-)
Pics in the following post.

Thanks
Nicolai

Welcome aboard Nicolai!
That's a tough call. You may have to take on the trouble shooting yourself which leads to the question of how much experience you have with tube amps, high voltages and electronics in general. PLEASE BE CAREFULL!!
First off...what sort of problems are you having? Often one can narrow down the prblem to a particular stage in the circuit or power supply ect.

Thanks for the answers.

Well i do not have lot of experience.
But my first project is goint to be a lot learning by doing.
And i am going to take it really slow with my first build.

This amp is such a mess, that i am not to keen to start trouble shooting untill i am a little more experienced.

I know this is high voltage, and i would never stick my fingers in there.
Especially not in this glorious design:-)

However as i said, the amp sounds great.
I have another one the is a little bit more neatly build.
Will upload some pics of that later.

As i said,i am very new at this, but have a keen interest, and you gotta start somewhere, right.
I do have a studio,so i know how to solder, and troubleshooting in my studio.

Anyways,Is there anybody who can deciphre this design?

Hi Nicolai.
It looks to me like someone took a schematic and laid it out literally (and maybe physically) more or less as the schematic was drawn, although they seem to have taken some liberties with the power supply section. If the amp is working and just plagued with loose connections, you shouldn't need much info about the design to poke through it with a non-conductive probe or a chopstick, etc. You may get lucky and just have to re-flow a few solder joints. The Trinity kit will be a great learning experience so maybe start with the kit build first and then take that new knowledge back to this amp in the future.
Good luck :D

Like Joeyvelour said, build that Trinity kit and you should have a better idea of where the issue might lie with the amp pictured.

Coco's documentation for building and troubleshooting is second to none, IMHO, and I built an amp as my very first build beyond a couple of resisters and LED's.

Have fun, enjoy the build and the most of all, the Trinity Amp!!

Thanks Guys.

And right on the money you are.

Just got started real slow.
I will start a thread in the 18 watt later today, with Pics.

I am learning something new everyday, and reading books, watching videos......

Today i am off to buy a new multimeter, and some helpers.
Will also try to modify my silverface twin to a blackface.
Thanks to Kendricks video.
Which btw,is a really good source.

For that i need some Caps, but there are different brands.
Is there a lot of difference in the differend brands, tone and such.

Its a slow learning process, but its really fun.
All those words that was so strange a week ago,are slowly beginning to make sense:-)

Thanks

Nicolai
