Hey all. Picked up a Vox AC4TV 1x10 combo on the weekend. Gotta learn to avoid Long & McQuade when I'm bored. Neat little combo. Could use a couple of minor tweaks (speaker & tubes) but pretty nice out of the box.

When I build a Tramp (and I will...don't worry!) we'll see if I keep the Vox.

If anyone's interested here's a link to my review on GC.

This is one amp I might have considered until I read your review on GC. I'll stick with the Tramp plans.

It's certainly not the "swiss army knife" that it sounds like you're going for with the Tramp!

Anything in particular in the review that stood out for you?

It didnt seem to get along well with a variety of guitars and the power scaling didnt work as well as it could (& will on the Tramp).

Of course we want the Tramp to be the best

Understood.

It could be better, but that would make it more expensive. They're trying to compete with the other cheapo products in this category so that's not gonna work. Also, they're trying to do that & still capture a vintage Vox vibe specifically so it's gonna be somewhat of a one-trick-pony by definition. There's only so much you can cram into a $250-300 budget (with the additional premium because it has "Vox" stamped on it no doubt!). The fact that it has power scaling in any form is a bonus.

For $300 in combo form, it's a nice little amp IMO. I'm sure I'll have no trouble flipping it if I decide to do that. The local shop has only managed to get 3 in & the first two were gone practically before they hit the floor.

Was this a good sounding amp way back when? It looks like it would make a fun project 8)
