Hi, I'm building a Princeton 5F2A type circuit and have a question about the output transformer. I have a Hammond 1760E which has an 8K ohm CT primary and 4, 8 and 16 ohm secondary taps. Should I use the full 8K primary or just the CT. Also what will this mean to the secondary taps? Thanks for any info.

Dave.

Unfortunately that transformer won't work. You have a OT designed for a push-pull amp while you need a OT transformer designed for a single ended (SE) amp.

Your current OT is designed for very little net current through it (the two sides of push-pull amps have opposing current which essentially sums to null). If you use that OT it won't be able to handle the output current and it will burn up in a nasty way.

Good news is a replacement OT for your amp is both cheap and plentiful.

Thanks for the reply, not really what I wanted to hear. Can you make any suggestions, I'm kind of new to this.
