Just scored an older S2 Lightning head (early 2000's). It sounds great, I am using it with a detuned 1X12 cabinet (KOC design) loaded with a well broke in WGS ET-65. I haven't peaked inside yet. I think the headshell came from Trinity (Trinity logo on back). I have no idea what brands the tubes are, it's dead quiet and sounds great. I have a suspicion that the chassis came from Ceri@tone (I had some back when I use to build amps). It has similar topology as the Matchless but with the addition of a Mids control, but not the Matchless style construction. Not sure what iron, but Steve sourced good stuff IIRC. This could have been built from a kit as I remember he offered those too, doesn't matter, it works. I would like to put the chassis in a 1X12 combo cabinet if I run across one for a decent price, other wise I will use it as is.
