How come all of the 2xEL34 amps are TMB / Marshall amps. Can't a 4 knob Lightning style 2xEl34 amp be designed? Sort of a JTM/AC35/50 kinda thing?

boogie,

The EL84 has a certain chime / distortion about it that the EL34 doesnt so it may not be the sound you're after but sure, there are lots of examples of that being done.

Some of the ones you mention are way out becasue they iuse much more coomplicated tone stacks and lots of interfering gadgets ... oh and I can't afford a trainwreck wich is the closest. I meant a very simple tone stack like the lightning or the early Voxes... Mojave makes some unclutterd amps too.

Thanks for you responses.

Mathcless Chieftan. TMB + V, MV & Reverb & Brlliance.

The Hiwatt 50w 504 is pretty basic as is the Bad Cat, Hot Cat 30.

No reason you couldn't graft 2 EL34s onto the Lightning tho. Might be good condidering the EL34 are darker sounding.
