I installed the Output transformer ( I believe correctly ). When I check for a short between ring and sleeve on the speaker and extension speaker jacks I have continuity. I think this is expected because the 4,8,16 ohms leads and the black lead are all connected and would have to read on my meter as being connected.

Am I overthinking this? In the OSD builder guide we are asked to check for shorting at the speaker and extension jacks... with a plug in and without being plugged in. Won't the ring and sleeve of these two jacks always give a reading of continuity?
I just need confirmation so that I can proceed to the power transformer installation.

You'll get continuity through the output transformer as the tip and sleeve are connected to the two sides of it. What you don't want to find is a short to earth I suspect.

I've been working on a new build and I'm also puzzled by the statement "check the jacks for shorts." At this point - with the impedance switch wired to the OT, what am I checking?

Does anyone read or participate in this forum anymore?

I have the same question about continuity at the same spot as well. Anyone ever find out why? I have continuity against both tip/ring/chassis/transformer outer bell...
