is the hardest part.

Just received a message from my wife - the sIII kit arrived from Trinity today. Too bad I'm at work. I ordered it November 18th, it was quickly shipped by Stephen but mail from Canada to the USA can be delayed. 10 days is not bad but I wish it would have arrived for the long weekend! At any rate, I'll take my time and try to have a good amp built by the end of the year.

I'm sure I'll be posting questions soon enough.

Depends on where you live, I'm in WNY and 10 days is normal for a shipment from Stephen to get here, always a couple of days to get across the border.

Also, you can always depend on getting the big package the day AFTER the holiday - Murphy at work :hmmm:

Yeah, that's true! I'm in Michigan, so not too far away. The kit was nicely packaged and I'm going over the BOM. I have questions already!
I asked Stephen via e-mail the following but maybe someone here can help. The capacitance function on my trusty Fluke 83 doesn't seem to be working and I'm perplexed by some of the markings on the capacitors:
The 500PF silver micas are OK as are the 16 UF, 25UF, 47 UF and 220UF capacitors (I understand the values are approximate and don't need to be an exact match). However there's a large capacitor marked ETR MET 684K 630V, I don't know what this corresponds to. Also, all of the SOZOs have markings that do not correspond either - there's (4) 472K 400V, (3) 103K 400V, (3) 223K 400V. I don't know what to make of this. :bugeye:

The last number on those caps refers to the multiplier (or how many zeros it has). The value is in pF. First two numbers is values. If you ordered a kit check your manual, there should be a section on reading caps and resistors.

So 684K 630V
Is a 680000pF = 680nF = 0.68uF

The K refers to tolerance which doesn't really matter here.

630V is the voltage rating.

Thanks so much. I should have known that because I've read it before. Doh!
