is this generally correct for these amps?

Yes... There is a cool diagram somewhere, but the switching jacks change a resistor network on the inputs.

Well it depends. For me I use the low input when I want it sounding cleaner, the hi more dirty. If you had a low output guitar, you might prefer the hi input to give you the best tonal options. Conversely, if you are overloading the preamp and don't like the sound, try the low input. All up to you

Both inputs are stock inputs really. Not sure what that quote was trying to get at with saying that.

The High input is your guitar signal going right to the first gain stage.
The Low input is your guitar signal being attenuated by 3dB through a resistive signal attenuator then going to the first gain stage.

The names explain the gain, volume of both inputs....
