I built the sIII with a PPIMV and love the sound. I was hoping to run the normal channel for a clean tone (Vol on 7) and switch to the sIII channel (Vol and Gain both on 7) for crunchier sounds. But set up that way I can't seem to achieve a unity volume between the two. The sIII channel is much louder than the normal channel. Is that inherent to the design? Or is there a fix?

The preamp tubes in your amp can affect the gain and volume characteristics of each channel. Experimenting with different tube types or adjusting their bias settings could potentially help achieve a more balanced volume between channels. tunnel rush

In your PPIMV circuit, check the configuration parameters. To balance the volume between modes, there might be components or modifications that can be modified. Verify the settings and configurations of any device you're using to connect to PPIMV if it's an amplifier or other audio device. To get the desired sound effect, modifications can be made using an EQ (Equalizer) configuration or separate volume controls for each channel.basketbros

It's not uncommon for different channels on an amplifier to have slightly different volume levels, especially if they are designed to provide different tonal characteristics. However, if the volume difference is significant, it could be due to differences in gain staging or circuit design between the two channels. super mario bros
The gain controls on each channel (Volume and Gain) interact differently with the preamp and power amp stages of the amplifier. Experiment with adjusting the settings on both channels to achieve a more balanced volume level between them. You may find that tweaking the Gain control on the sIII channel, in particular, helps to better match its volume to the normal channel.
Since you mentioned using a Post-Phase Inverter Master Volume (PPIMV), it's possible that the PPIMV settings are affecting the overall volume balance between the channels. Try adjusting the PPIMV control to see if you can achieve a more consistent volume level when switching between channels.
