The 194a is more than enough for an 18W.

The 155j might be cutting it a bit close on an 18W as it can only handle 30mA of current through it. If you feel that your screens and preamp will draw less than that when your amp is dimed then go with the 155j.
The inductance of the choke is actually not that important, I doubt you would notice a difference in tone with the two different inductances.


After recording the clips I found the amp sounded way better with a ceramic speaker, specifically a Tone Tubby San Rafeal. I might record it again and do some more riffing with the SR.

could you repost the layout/schematic of what you did, i want to rebuild my 18w with 6v6's only as i really dont like the el84 much. and after building myself a princeton reverb, and some other 'projects' ive improved my wiring skills a lot (still need to get tolex to stick longer than a month tho...)
