I just joined the forum and was wondering if anyone here has played or owns both the sIII and the TMB Plexi model 18 watters?

I'm ready to buy a kit but I'm torn between the sIII and Plexi version.
The tone I chase after most is the Jimi. Trower, Eric Johnson type of thing
which has me leaning toward the Plexi.

The description for the sIII mentions a more JTM 45 Bluesbreaker Clapton tone as well as Hendrix which induces confusion for me since I love the tone of both amp types.

How does the bottom end tightness, gain, headroom, compression compare between the two?

I'd guess from your username, you already made your choice! You just have to admit it to yourself.

Plexi has more in your face type type tone. A lille more modern, but not wild distortion. The normal channel on the Plexi has more balls as well.

Both give great crunch and I think you can cover all the ranges you want with the Plexi.

yep J-Rock the name says it all, I'm kinda partial to plexi's
I just ordered the plexi head kit a while ago.

I have a Marshall 1987x RI thats been gone thru buy Tone-man Don Butler.

I had him put in Mercury trannies, choke and PTP board. The amp kills but like most Marshalls it's way too loud for most places so I'm hoping the plexi head will get me those tones at a reasonable volume.

Coco thanks for your input as well, I was hoping to get that very feedback from somebody. I think the plexi might be a bit more versatile!

I'm sure I'll be back with plenty of goofy questions once I get the kit.
This will be my fist attempt at amp building, I've built 12-15 stomp boxes
and modded a few wah pedals.

I've been lurking here in the forum for a couple of weeks trying to convince myself I can survive building an amp and it seems like a great community for support.
