Has anyone tried inserting the 18watt tremelo into the 5E3 circuit?

However, I don't see any reason why it couldn't be done, provided you're happy to use a 12AX7 in the first preamp position instead of a 12AY7. The 18W tremolo oscillator is real fussy about gain level. However, if you didn't want all that gain in your 5E3 preamp, you could always use a resistor or two to attenuate the signal between the preamp stages.

Yes, but wouldn't a 5E3 with the 18W tremolo preamp be simpler to do? And you only lose half of a 12AX7 that way. The 18W tremolo circuit is also reckoned by a lot of people to be one of the best around.
