Hi everyone,

What speakers are you using with your 18 watt, Trinity or otherwise? Stephen is building me a TMB-MV and I'd be curious to know what you're using now, what you've tried, etc. Thanks!

In an avatar 2x12 i have tried.

1 Celestion blue and 1 G12h30 - This is a great combination. very articulate with good bottom end. Works best with the treble way down I feel.

1 Celestion Blue and 1 BBQ 50W Alnico Silver Bell. Pure Alnico Tone. It was realy nice sounding but a little flubby on the bass. I still might go back to this config.

2 G12H30's. I am diggin this config right now! It is very smooth and warm with almost no harsh top end. Might not suit all styles cuz it's so smooth but I like 'em alot.

I've heard some great things about the G12H30's. I'll be using the amp initially through a 1x12 I have now with an Eminence Governor, which is supposedly their version of the Vintage 30. I do want to check out the G12H30. Avatar has that great deal on the Vintage 30 & G12H30 2x12. They definitely do some good work. Didn't realize they shipped to Canada! Thanks for the reply.

My 18 watt lite (which I should finish in the next week or two) will be feeding a 1X12 cab I made last month, loaded with a Celestion G12H30.

Lawrence has aparently had excellent results with a celestion blue....but those things are pricy....

Yeah, they stopped a couple of years ago. Pity.

I purchased 2 12" sammi 40 watters. I am putting them in a reason 2x12 combo.
I heard them in a TMB and they sound fantastic.

I'm going back and forth between a Silver Bell and a G12H30. I think I'm going to stay with the SB in the end, but I might go ahead and upgrade to the AlNiCo version. So many speakers, so little time...

Hey s2, What wattage is your Bell? I hear that they get a little more efficient and a little brighter as the wattage gets lower.

I have my 18Lite II going into a sealed back cab with a Cellestion G12K85 that I got from Stephen.
The speaker is a little dark,as Stephen told me,but the 18 is a bright amp and they strike a good combination.
Yes,85W may seem like a lot but the 18 is loud and with the vol at 8 or 9 you are glad you have the extra speaker power.

I've used both G12H-30s and Vintage 30s. I think I like the H30 a little more for 18 watts. The V30 likes a little more output power than 18 watts to really get going.

8)

Since my Thunderbolt 9 Amps are Spitfire/LiteII Hybrids I guess it's ok to mention what I use... Jensen C10/35 in a GM110 Cab. Here's a pic of the silly lil prototype T-bolt 9 ToneBox Head without the cover:

With cover after I recently rebuilt it:

I also use it with a Narrow Panel Poplar 112 Cab w/Celestion G12K-85. I would describe the tone of the K-85 as more Neutral sounding than Dark.

Sounds a bit like the G12H100. Very neutral speaker. I have been using a V.30 in a Shiva style 1x12 (it is all I have avaiable at the moment). It sounds pretty good. A classic rock kind of sound.

I have a set of the 1965A & B cabs available from my son's rig. They each have 4 Celestion G10L-35's in them. I haven't tried driving both of them yet, and I might not ever.

Luckybob! I here the 4x10 cabs are sweet! And as for the celestions they contain here is what a former Dr. Decible had to say about them.

"marshall used D-25's and L-35's in 4x10's, but the L-35 is much better. D-25's have a 9oz magnet, 1" coil (i.e. not enough motor) and the l-35's have a 200z with a 1.25" coil. Much better for glassy and defined, better bass but not big and woofy. Andy Marshall at THD liked them a lot, and he's a man who knows his onions. Mind you, they aren't made anymore.
I've just looked at the latest catalogue, and all that's listed are the G10 vintage (which I rate highly ; really big sound for a 10, but maybe doesn't sound 10" enough) and the Tube 10. I'd avoid the Tube 10 ; it was designed as a cheap OEM speaker for small combos, and whilst OK for the money, it is by no means a classic. I feel i'm being fair here, as I did design the little bugger !"

This was indeed lucky. These cabs were the setup for the Mosfet amps of the 80's. My son bougtht the angled cab with the head and we we found the straight one on e-bay a couple of years ago for $355 to complete the stack. They're good sounding and versatile, and much easier to handle than the 4x12 cabs. I'd recommend them. I think the small box plexi cab might hang over the edges of the cabs, but I'm not sure. If anyone's worried about that they should check out the dimensions.

After lots and lots of tone tasting, I have officially settled on the Greenback for the 18 Watt. I like a Silver Bell with the Lightning. My .02.

Bob, how did your Sammi cabinet turn out? I am looking at a Sammi for a "Amp that shall remain namesless" project.

Strange... I answered this thread twice and must have been confuzzled the first time. I like a Silver Bell with my Lightning and a Greenback with my 18 Watt. Hmmm... Musta been drinkin'!
