I can recommend the Tung Sol [though I have had what I think is more infant mortality with them].

EH can sound a little thin. New Sensor's fake "Tung Sols" have a sweet tone, but IMO are too bright for use in an amp that's already bright due to its EL84 power tubes. I find the end result to be ice-picky. So for current production I would recommend New Sensor's fake "Mullard" 12AX7s as the optimum. They also have a clear sweet tone, somewhat like the "Tung Sols" but better overall balance.

Ditto almost. I don't get any ice picky stuff from the Tung Sols but the NS Mullards seem a little richer and creamier.

Ahh, well the question was EH or Tung SOL. I would go with the Mullards to, given the choice and budget.

I can get the Mullards pretty cheap / wholesale pricing
Only about $2 more than the Tung Sol
Tell me more about the Mullards

The "Mullards" are the best sounding current production 12AX7s money can buy IMO. You would have to go to NOS for any better than that.

+1 on that. I really like them also. They seem to sound great in all my amps, especially brit-voiced amps.

I have new Svetlanas in my Bad Cat build. They're made in the same factory/production line as the Tung-Sols (so I hear) but are a little less bright & a touch less gainy. They sound killer in that amp.

I have the same issue as Stephen with the new Tung-Sols. About 1 in 5 have failed either right out of the box or in short order. They do sound fantastic in the right amp, but they are bright in EL84 amps (IMO).
