first I want to say hi; hope all is well with everyone. I built an sIII back in 2005 I believe, and was really excited by the results. Then I changed jobs, and had some kids, and went back to school and finished my degree, etc, etc, etc.. I pretty much all but gave up on playing guitar and the amp went in the garage under the workbench. There it sat for years, not being used... A few months ago I dug out the amp, its still just a chassis with tubes sticking out of it. It had half inch of dust on it from sitting in the garage.. I cleaned it up, plugged it in and was pleasantly surprised it was not only still working but sounded pretty darn good! I'm finally at a point in my life where I can start practicing a little each day and when the wife is gone I can crank the amp for an hour or so. I did remember a problem I had with it however, a somewhat loud hum not coming from the guitar, but strangely enough would magically dissappear when I used my AB/Y box and combined the tmb side with the normal side. I believe I was told to look for cold solder joints but so far havent found anything. continuity checks all seem to be pretty good. I was thinking about just getting parts to build a new board and swap it out but I thought I would check in since the board seems to be still very active. I'm pretty sure its not comign out of the guitar, the hum(buzz) doesnt change when I flip pickups or turn down the volume. Any advice is appreciated I am searching the forums now for similar problems and hopefully resolutions. Its still a very enjoyable exprience playing the amp as is.
thanks,
Don

Sounds like a bad or missing ground.

Sorry I didnt get right back, I'm thinking I am going to just build a new board and swap it out. I used a lot of old parts from a salvage/closeout shop. It was my first build and I'm sure I didnt do as good a job as I should have. I have the latest version of the schematics and layout. I think I used an earlier one so I will check the differences.
thanks
