I finally have my 18 watt Plexi kit I got last year completed and running without issue. Now I want to install a PPIMV. Does anyone have any picture of your install on this 18 watt? I have installed these in the past on a couple JMP 50's I built and they work well using one of the speaker jack holes. Would like to see what a successful install looks like on this amp.

Probably won't find much about it here. VRM is a more effective global master volume and prefered here. PPIMV is great for the preamp distortion thing though.

Lots of info about the PPIMV at the Metro Amps forum.

Zaphod provided good detail on thePPIMV here:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2346&hilit=ppimv

Still prefer the VRM mod that retains the distortion better, though this would probably be OK on the TMB channel due to the gain control.

Thanks for the info! I need to do the research on the VRM. Yes I did automatically think about the PPIMV because of the Metro JMP 50's I have built.

People mostly seem to like the VRM. For a few more $

Yes, the VRM works very well in this amp! Highly recommended option!

How does it compare to the LarMar PPIMV.

One big difference is that on the 50 watts the PPIMV really gives you the ability to bring the volume way down. The VRM doesn't have as much range but works well. With the VRM turned down I can just crank the volumes and get a great sound. I see what you mean about that normal channel. It can really give up the goods and I didn't expect that!

Yes, at the lowest limit of the VRM, the tubes can get fizzy. i wonder how both would work together?!

I think I am going to try it with both. I'll let you know how it works. for me at least on the JMP 50's I wouldn't be able to use those in the small clubs and rehearsals I play without that PPIMV.

Just to make sure I don't screw this up let me run this by you. It's a different layout from the JMP 50. I'm going to take a dual 500K pot. unsolder the bottom ends of the 2 .022uf coupling caps to interrupt the signal coming from the PI and send that to the pots. Then send the signal from the pots to the terminals where the bottom end of the coupling caps were previously soldered. I think the only thing left is to tie the grounds on the pots together and run that to the ground end of those 470K resistors.
