Better create another topic for this:

After I installed the VRM (scaling the whole amp), I noticed the following, that I had not before.
I noticed an awful cracking sound in both channels.. but that happens only when I put the treble pot between 0-3 or 6-10.. And even with the VRM at 10.
If I put it in the middle it sounds OK!!

Planned to disconnect the VRM if that is the cause..
Any ideas? Thanks!

Never seen that as a result of adding a VRM. Are the/any VRM wires twisted or braided?
Are they close to a control pot?
Do you have a picture of the installation?

No, those wires are not near the pot.
Unfortunately I do not have a camera right now.. I will try to move some wires with a wood stick to see if I discover something.

I also do not think this could be caused by the VRM.
It probably have been there before but I had the treble pot in middle position, so I did not notice it..

If the amp is not in a box, or shielded or close to a flourescent lght, it can also pick up noise.

Yesterday I turned it on and did not notice any issue at all!!

I dont know what I could be / had been.
Perhaps some interference with something (dont really think so), perhaps a tube failure.. dont really know.
I will test it more times before touching anything..

Thanks to all!

Phantom noise is quite a common problem! :D

Could be a loose connection. One the day the connection is good and making contact the next day it is a little intermittent and you hear the crackle.

Sometimes it is actually useful to bang on the top/sides of the amp with your first while it is running to try and see if you can induce the symptoms. Something similar to this: :damntech:
