For the record I'm putting together a sIII. I've had my chassis powder coated and want to make sure I have my grounding points correct. I know I'm giong to have to grind the coating down to the bare metal at several points and I want to make sure I'm clear on the grounding layout.

I will be grinding down the points at the Instrument input / Buss bar location, the power cord input ground and the transformer center tap location. Those are the 3 points that seem to be clear according to the layout diagram.

1. Do the transformer mounting bolts need to be grounded?

2. All of the tone and volume pots connect to the grounded buss bar except for the treble and bass pots. Do these 2 pots need to be grounded to the chassis?

I think that's it. Let me know if I'm missing anything.

Sounds great, you will have to put it in a perspex head cab so people can see the chassis  I think in answer to your two questions 1. No and 2. No the shells of a pot have no contact to the tabs and the two controls you mention do not require grounds. You only need to ground a transformer post if you were using it as a star for other components, the only other reason I could think of grounding a trannie would be to prevent shock if for some reason something major went wrong inside causing the shell to become live but I think this would be highly unlikely.

Thanks, I needed a bit of hand holding on that one. I was pretty sure I had it correctly but, if you don't ask you'll never know. So I guess I'll start grinding those 3 points tomorrow.

Agree with Legin here. Make sure those 3 points are well ground off. Otherwise, a poor gound can cause hum and shocks.
