I'm really stuck on this bad jack problem. The high input of the 18W channel has a short from tip to sleeve. If I disconnect the shield from both high and low cliff jacks, the short is still there. If I disconnect the wire going from the high input to the tube, the short goes away. The wiring of the jacks looks identical to the TMB input, which doesn't have this short. Any ideas?

There should be a short to ground with no plug in. Can you post a picture?

The short is happening on the other end of the guitar cable I plug into this jack.

Does anyone know where I can buy one of these cliff jacks in the USA? The one I have is damaged, probably melted from too much soldering/desoldering.

I couldn't get my original account password reset, so I'm posting the solution I just discovered (12 years later!)

The high input was correct through the jack, then soldered to the turret board(?) before it goes to the tube socket. My problem was that I used the middle turret instead of the ones at either end. The middle turret is connected to the chassis, so that input was just shorting to ground. Feel pretty stupid finally fixing it all these years later, but perhaps someone in the future will find this helpful while troubleshooting.

Wow, thanks for the long-term follow up. Always interesting to find out the solution. Glad things are still working too! (2006-2018!)
