Hello, I am new to this forum. I am planning to build an 18watt amp soon and right now Trinity's design is my first choice to follow. The layout is clear and the amp sounds pretty good from what I can hear on the recordings on the site.

I am looking over several different 18 watt layouts and trying to decide which one to follow.

One thing about the Trinity design I like is the master volume. How functional is it? It looks like a pre-phase inverter design which to my ears suck alot of tone. Has anyone tried a post PI MV in this amp?

Are the normal and tmb channels independent or interactive? Does the master volume control both channels?

The MV only applies to the sIII (TMB) channel, not both and it is a pre-PI phase inverter design. The amount of control you get from using it is quite substantial from clean to dirty. I don't know anyone who has tried a post PI MV in this amp but there is no reason it wouldnt work, but it would sound different. You might try the Lightning MV design

Theres been discussion on MV here: http://www.18watt.com/modules.php?name= ... master+vol

In the sIII, the Volume and MV control how much signal comes from one part of the preamp circuit versus the other. Sort of a Gain and Volume for that channel.

If you jump the channels, the normal and sIII channels are interactive and sound truly wonderful. There is a post here about that somewhere ...

Plus, you can always rewire the amp for a PPIMV very easily.

Go ahead and build an sIII. You can always modify it, but it's a very good sound to start with and is fast becoming the most popular 18 watt TMB out there.
